Dr. Kai Yamaguchi began his career in transplantation in 2005 and joined the transplant team at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu in 2013. Prior to joining Queen’s, he served as Chief of the Division of Transplantation at Fletcher Allen Healthcare/University of Vermont. He has performed over 230 kidney transplants, 20 kidney-pancreas and pancreas transplants, and over 20 living kidney donor surgeries as primary surgeon.

Dr. Yamaguchi also serves as Associate Professor of Surgery for the University of Hawai‘i John A. Burns School of Medicine. He has conducted transplant research as both co-investigator and principal investigator, and has given numerous presentations in his areas of expertise. A Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserve, Dr. Yamaguchi has been awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Combat Action Badge, and Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal.
